Subterráneos de Buenos Aires S.E. is a Governmental enterprise. It analizes, designs and carries out the plans for Buenos Aires’ subway network expansion. It is a pioneer in the construction and operation of this kind of transport: its origin goes back to 1909.

Subterráneos de Buenos Aires S.E. relies on a group of highly qualified professionals, trained in an enterprise with a 90-years-old tradition in the field of metropolitan network development. Engineers, architects, and transport management and planning specialists, designing on a working table, supervising the tunnel construction and the stations at 20 meters underground, or directing the setting and start-up of railway tracks, as well as the electromechanic and electronic equipment.

One of the main priorities of this company is the conservation of the city’s natural and cultural environment; prior to any iniciative, an integral evaluation on the potential environmental impact of every construction is carried out, analyzing what alterations may human intervention produce in the whole urban system.

Since 1995, Subterráneos de Buenos Aires S.E. has begun an expansion plan so that the city may count on a larger network that may revitalize its central areas; thus turning this transport network into one of the engines of economic reactivation of several community sectors.

Buenos Aires Autonomous City has 2,768,000 inhabitants, and receives more than 10 million people coming from the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Region. Half of the daily journeys generated in this area are carried out by public transport; most of which is carried out through passenger automobile transport, and 10% through the subway network. Estimations show that the subway carries 1,150,000 passengers daily.
