Line C
The construction of Line C, between Plaza Constitución and Retiro, was launched on May 24th, 1933, under the concession granted to Compañía Hispano-Argentina de Obras Públicas y Finanzas S.A. (CHADOPYF). The first stretch, that joined Plaza Constitución with Diagonal Norte, was inaugurated on November 9th, 1934, and was 2.8 km long. Fifeteen months later, on February 6th, 1936, the second stretch was inaugurated and the Line reached Retiro; the tunnel obtained its actual extension of 4.3 km. The construction of this Line incorporated beautiful decorative elements to the subways: majolics and murals with typical Spanish landscapes, signed by two argentine artists: Arch. Martín S. Noel and Eng. Manuel Escasani.
This is, nowadays, the only transversal line, and it unites two important passenger transference centers: Constitución and Retiro. Line C has 9 stations and a total of 260,000 passengers travel in it, every working day.
