Line E

This Line’s construction was carried out in several stages. It began in 1940 and its first stretch, that was 3.08 km and joined Plaza Constitución with the intersection of San Juan and Gral. Urquiza streets, was inaugurated on June 20th, 1944; six months later it reached Boedo station. Since April 24th, 1966, the itinerary of Line E has been modified to cover from Plaza de Mayo to Av. La Plata, using for this purpose two new stretches of the tunnel: one between San José and Bolivar, the other between Boedo and Av. La Plata. With this new outline, inaugurated by President A. Illia, the tunnel reached a total length of 7.4 km.

The next stage was inaugurated on June 23rd, 1973, when its itinerary was prolonged to the actual José María Moreno station.

The last extension was made in 1985, when the stations Emilio Mitre, Medalla Milagrosa and Varela were inaugurated; in 1986 the work was finished with the inauguration of the Plaza de los Virreyes station.

The main axe of the itinerary is Av. San Juan, and it joins the terminals Plaza de los Virreyes and Bolívar. Line E has an extension of 9.6 km, a total of 15 stations and it carries more than 88,000 passengers per working day.
